Nepal is a landlocked country where the world’s highest peak, Mount Everest is situated. Today the country is a Republic after the Maoist tookover the government after ending a decade long conflict. The religion of the country is mostly Hindu, besides that Buddhists and Muslim also resides. It is a country of diverse ethnicity.
A few months back the situation of the country was at stake with the ongoing Maoist rebellion. Once considered as a peaceful country, today the country hits media headlines mostly with conflict issues between the government and the guerrillas. Though the Maoist have given up arms and joined the main political stream and as suggested by Maoists they are only interested in the goodwill of the country and its people, but both parties have still not come together to make peace. Instead of coming into the limelight by settling an example for other countries in conflict that Nepal has brought drastic changes all for the betterment of the country and its people and now its all over. But sadly, it portrays the negative side which is severely hindering its peace process and economy.
Day by day the situation is getting worst, giving a negative image to the world, its society and of course towards its own citizens. The people of the country are stuck between the government politics and the Maoists. With the ongoing crisis the economic condition is becoming worst and worst. Nepal’s one of the main source of income comes from Tourism.
In former times the country used to be lively and full of tourists but now you can hardly see a tourist walking on the streets as you pass by. The people are living in fear. Families worry whether they will see their loved ones or not once they leave their houses. They have fear constantly on their minds, which is making life very difficult in Nepal. There is unnecessary tension everywhere. Thousands of people in the country want to leave or have left their homeland and have settled down abroad. People fear their future is at risk. But it is high time for the government to start worrying about it because it is a big loss for the country.
It will hinder on a long-term basis especially in the development of the country. Young people who go abroad to study should be encouraged to come back once they have attained their qualifications, in order to showcase their experiences and bring changes in the Nepalese society. They are the future and they can only prosper our country. Its high time for the country to pull back its strength. But if there is no future, security in the country, why would anyone come back and struggle when actually they have the capability to prove themselves in a different country.
Once referred to as a country of paradise, it is now full of danger. The country is in such a risky position if the political situation doesn’t stabilise. It is like if you bend too much you have the chance to fall if you have no one to hold onto. Worst crises might take place as the country is surrounded between two giant countries, India and China. Nepal has become sandwiched between these two rapidly developing countries that are competitors to first world.
Earlier the people of the country trusted their future to the hands of the Maoist leader, Prachanda, by making him the Prime Minister. Some people have opposed the leadership of Prachanda, though the majority have given him the opportunity to run the country and let him prove his capability. This is the chance given by the people of its country to bring in a change that is absolutely needed at the moment. Every citizen today is hoping for the well being of the country and for the country to prosper. So this is the chance given to bring change in the country and turn it in the right direction to reach the goals of stability and security, which previous Prime Ministers failed to do. With a hope everything will all become stable people are trying to live a normal and happy life.
When the world is facing economic global crisis and recession I wonder how adversely a country like Nepal has been affected. With neighbouring countries like India and China reaching for help and taking part in the global crisis, Nepal is still worrying about the political situation rather than focusing on the economic side. Everything in the country has gone wrong. Firstly, the Royal Massacre which shocked the whole country then followed by an unstoppable rebellion. Tens of thousands of innocent people have been killed in the last decade. It is a country that is in constant threat either from the government or guerrillas to its people on the one hand and on the other hand in danger of its giant neighbouring countries. Thus only time will tell what the future of the country will be; either a paradise on earth or a country in despair.
